Chartered Banker Professional Standards Board

Welcome

Launched on 25 October 2011, the CB:PSB is a voluntary joint initiative by nine leading banks in the UK and the oldest banking institute in the world. The CB:PSB will:

  • Develop a series of professional standards to support the ethical awareness, customer focus and competence of those working in the banking industry;
  • Facilitate industry and public awareness and recognition of the standards;
  • Establish mechanisms for the implementation, monitoring and enforcement of the standards; and
  • Help build, over time, greater public confidence and trust in individuals, institutions and the banking industry overall, and enhance pride in the banking profession.

The CB:PSB serves as a public demonstration of banks’ collective commitment to restoring trust in the banking profession and emphasising our responsibilities to our customers, colleagues and wider society. It is supported and staffed by the Chartered Banker Institute, a trading name of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland, – the oldest professional banking body in the world.

The initial signatories establishing the CB:PSB are Chairmen and Chief Executives of: Barclays plc, Clydesdale Bank, HSBC Bank, ING Direct UK, Lloyds Banking Group, The Royal Bank of Scotland Group, Santander UK, Tesco Bank and Virgin Money.

Together, the initial signatories serve more than 70 million UK customers, and employ more than 350,000 individuals working in banking in the UK. It is anticipated that other banking organisations will join as the CB:PSB progresses.
